I look at these women with freaky muscles and wonder...how? Is it good
genetics, 6 hours in the gym every day, drugs? I mean, I would never want
to look like that, but if I could be 1/10th as muscular, I'd be happy. I
understand that bodybuilding is not just building up muscle, but getting
down to a super low bodyfat. So seriously, what kind of routine do they go
through to get lean and muscular?

I often wonder the same thing.

> Is it good genetics,

Yes.

I'm almost certain it was an Eddie Robinson quote, I'm remembering
(kindasorta), something like, "I was first encouraged to get into
bodybuilding because I looked like a bodybuilder." Also, Herschel
Walker <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Herschel_Walker>; benched something
like 300 pounds the first time he touched a weight. He said, in
probably Sports Illustrated, that he did chins, situps, and handstand
presses as a kid, but had never touched weights. Raw, natural,
genetics? Yes.

Lenda <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lenda_Murray>; has stated she would
have been a great cheerleader, but her butt and thighs were too big.
She was a record-holding sprinter in high school, so the "too big" did
not mean "fat". Do you think Serena Williams
<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Serena_Williams>; trained specifically for
those arms and that booty? No. God is the answer. ;o) Or the physique
fairy? Natural selection? Take your pick.

Otoh, Murray and Williams were both born in Michigan. Maybe it's
something in the water.

> 6 hours in the gym every day,

More than likely, NO. Certainly, "Not necessarily." would apply.

> drugs?

Well, let's back up and define freaky muscles. Drugs probably wouldn't
hurt, but they're absolutely not a necessity.

> I mean, I would never want to look like that, but

But you'd kill for some of their waist to hip differential? And their
lowlowlow bodyfat percentage?

> if I could be 1/10th as muscular, I'd be happy.

Hmm. What's your calculation there? You're being figurative, but...

> I understand that bodybuilding is not just building up muscle, but getting

> through to get lean and muscular?

Twelve to 15 weeks of precision diet, supplementation, and cardio prior
to a show.

Yes, more than likely, some of them are drugging like crazy.

Genetics, knowledge, persistence, intensity, consistency all hold
greater importance, imo, however.

You're an idiot, Brink. And you have man boobs.

http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a36/imnoone/MFW/wb.jpg

Okay, idiot might be harsh, but how do you offer, "Not quite," with - I
assume - a straight face? Good genetics are not responsible for freaky
muscles? What? You mean someone with good genetics who does absolutely
no training whatsoever will not be aware of their bodybuilding
potential? Explain Ken Norton. He didn't bodybuild (it's a verb, shut
up), but was built like a Greek god. Explain Serena Williams. Genetic
physique and athleticism. Explain any number of women with superior
calves, broad shoulders, wasp waists, and the booty to cry over.
Genetics.

Six hours in the gym every day? So, Dorian's a liar. Mentzer was a
liar. Mark Dugdale's a liar? Just picked up his dvd titled Driven where
he offers that, as a husband, father, and businesman, as well as a pro
bodybuilder, he tries to maintain four workouts a week that each last
about one hour. High intensity rather than high volume.

Drugs are mandatory? For what? Freaky muscles? For who? Every
bodybuilder? No, Will. You're wrong. You were, I suspect, being
flippant. So, while you may not be an idiot... there's nothing I can do
about those man boobs.

You didnt read the 'women' bodybuilders in the OP ..
thats what Brink was referring to.

If you see a woman with 'freakishly' huge muscles , she is definately
taking drugs of some sort. Women do not have the hormones to naturally
achieve this look even with 'good' genetics or spending six hours in
the gym everyday. It just wont happen.
For example, google pics of a professional boybuilder name of Chyna.
She went off the drugs that made her so huge (lost her 'jaw juice' huge
amazon look) and was last seen on on tv on the Surreal Life.

Does it say, professional women bodybuilders there somewhere?

Was it? Or was Brink making a knee-jerk, non-helpful, five-word post
designed (maybe) to be considered witty by some.

"Not quite, yes, and yes." says so much. The veil is lifted. I am one
with the muscle-building universe. Thank you, Mr. Brink.

You ever leave your room, apartment, home, office, etc.? Ever?

I was at a local Barnes and Noble, eating a slice of cake and a glass
(okay, plastic cup) of milk, browsing through a stack of magazines. A
woman walked by and then stood by the newspaper section. She was an
older woman, maybe 50, wearing a knee-length dress, kinda heavy through
the waist, big chest, broad enough shoulders, but the striking thing
about her was her calves. Tremendous. Incredible. Effing hyoooog, but
also shapely. Like a professional bodybuilder's, well, some. Lenda's
calves aren't like that. And I'm not dissing Lenda, but just to say
that this... citizen, average Jane, has calves that are hella better
than the majority of today's female pros.

It just won't happen? Wrong. Freakishly huge muscles. And, I strongly
suspect, no drugs of *any* sort. Well, not bodybuilding related at
least.

This woman and more DO have the hormones to naturally achieve this
look.

Likewise Tina Lockwood. You think if she went off whatever supplements
or pharmaceuticals she may be taking that she'd suddenly look like...
you? Uh, what do you look like? I've posted my pics. Brink's posted
his. Well?

> For example, google pics of a professional boybuilder name of Chyna.

And?

Still, I like jaw juice as a term. Did you make that one up? If so,
cool. If not, thanks anyway for introducing me to the term. See, I
don't get out of MY room often either. ;o)

And probably high testosterone. African women have more test then Caucasian
or Asian women.

Those who tried to build freaky muscles without steroids failed miserably. I
know a few guys who are pretty muscular without steroids, with a freaky tiny
hips and waist. And they are African.

Steroids, plain and simple.
A few women, most of them black, and Tina Lockwood had freaky genetics.
Denise Masino OTOH, was very symmetrical but also very skinny before sho got
on the juice.

Also. But not always.

Dont think so.

Only if you are planning to compete. Most recreants are statisfied with
reasonably low level, not a super low level of BF%.

Nothing fancy.
Combination of basic and isolation movements. And lots of cardio
pre-contest.

Pathetic.

Unless they're hanging out after their workout. Heck, I could spend 6
hours just talking with friends, putting plates away, spotting people,
reading magazines... Hnh. Where do I get an employment app for Gold's?

The bone structure is what, imo, truly marks an impressive physique.
Someone with the X shape but perhaps not as sharp would get my vote
over a more block shape but dialed in.

Pete, I don't know if you've ever even heard of Mark Dugdale, but his
DVD might make you a fan. A friend of his, Joel Barham put together a
documentary that was worth every penny of the forty bucks I paid for
it. More than two hours in length, informative, entertaining,
motivating.

I have no idea and you can't believe what they say because they are
often selling something or hiding something.

Also, it depends on exactly what level of freaky you mean.

Probably androstenedione boobies. Lots of guys got them and I'm
surprised there was never a class action suit (given that taking
androstenedione was nearly the same as taking estrogen).

Here's the simple reality: all the really big ones use substantial
amounts of anabolic steroids. Their serum testoterone levels are
several times that of the average male. Many of them do erotica as a
sideline, and if you see some of their photographs, you will notice
that nearly all of them have clitorises that look like small penises.

Not that there's anything wrong with that.

And the use of those anabolic steroids allow them to train heavy for
longer and more frequently than anyone can without them.

You probably didn't want to hear that, but it doesn't make it any less
the truth. It's a choice they make. Some folks like it, some don't.

If Lenda Murray is selling, I'm buying. Fly fishing gear, Tupperware,
cubic zirc whatevers, t-shirts, bridges, I don't care. Where do I send
the check?

Exactly.

This is why I often ask for a definition when posting a reply. Imo, you
can't have a useful conversation if the participants are not speaking
the same language or from the same understanding of terms.

I believe I understand Betsy's perspective more after her follow-up

Dear Mr. Seeks the Truth,

Where do you get the idea that she "didn't really want to hear that"? I
mean, she stated "I would never want to look like that". And she also
commented, "if I could be 1/10th as muscular, I'd be happy."

That's one TENTH, John.

Sounds like someone *without* a serious need to be concerned about what
you purport as the lifestyle of "the really big ones".

Also she asked, "So seriously, what kind of routine do they go through
to get lean and muscular?"

So, like Brink, although you have been said to have great knowledge on
the subject of exercise, supplements, and steroids, you decide to offer
little of relevance, imo. Hnh. Whining? No. Voicing disappointment?
Perhaps.

I must've missed the part where she would be disappointed if you told
her your simple reality. Likewise, I must've been struck blind
momentarily when she asked about erotica and small penises.

Are you feeling well? How's your back? Did you hurt it lifting boxes of
erotica or somethingsomething small penises. Hey, I'm rapidly losing
interest in busting on you.

Note: I am responding to your post without rage or bitterness. I know
you're easily confused on that count.

Hth.

As we both know, I have more knowledge and experience with pro female
bodybuilders in my pinky then Curt et al have combined, and that's being
nice to them. I did make a mistake in my response however, which should
have been: Yes, no, and yes. I read it as the 6 hours in the gym part as
being first on the list.

Don't feed the trolls Joanne. On the question

"Is it good genetics, 6 hours in the gym every day,
drugs?"

The answer should have been "yes, not quite, and no" I read it as 6
hours in the gym as the first on the list. Make no mistake, genetics and
drugs are the major factor for high level female bbers as well as many
fitness/figure types also.

You read it... wrong. Thank you for correcting your error. Someone pass
that along to his dumbass. And tell him I said he has man boobs. Hnh. A

Actually, first on the list was, "I look at these women with freaky
muscles and wonder...how?"

That was the first question in her post. More of a set-up for the rest
of the post, so you're forgiven. ;o)

With genetics being of the greatest importance, imo. You have to have a
platform from which to launch your rocket. Likewise, put your rocket
fuel in a Yugo and see what happens. The ultimate in performance? I
don't think so.

A little bit of correction/comment, "African" isn't a race, it's a
geographical term. For example there are some Africans who are
classified as Congoid (after the Congo region) AKA the traditional
Blacks, and some who are Caucasoid such as the North African Berbers,
