I am currently looking for a different ab workout, or maybe just to mix
it up a little bit. As of now I do all sorts of ab workouts (at the
gym, not a video). I was just curious if anyone else might have some
input of what they prefer to do that works.
Also does anyone have any good tips on things to eat when you are
trying to gain more visibility of your abs? I had a friend that pretty
much starved himself and ran constantly and ab workouts but thats not
for me. Any suggestions appreciated.

Try an ab-machine with a weight stack, and go for high resistance.
try to do sets of 12-15, where you reach failure, or just short of.

Like i said, build the ab muscles first. A thick abdominal wall is more
easily visible then flat underdeveloped abs, usually a result of hundreds of
reps weith low resistance.

EVERYONE has a 6 pack. Or so I've been told - I've never actually seen
mine... But it is not so much a matter of how much you work your abs, but
how low your bodyfat % is. I don't know what the average range is for a man
or woman to get visible abs, and of course it depends on where you tend to
carry most of your fat anyways. If you carry it around your middle, you
might not ever see your abs, even if you drop your overall bodyfat down very
low. Bottom line - it's a function of losing fat. Of course
building/maintaining muscle is important too. Good healthy diet, not
starving, and a balance of cardio and resistance workouts is the way to go,
imo.

As Pete said, do heavier weight not tons of reps.
And treat your abs like any other muscle group in your body giving them
recovery time.
Your abs showing is more an issue of lower body fat. <10% is where you'll
need to be. The way to get there is through diet. Many people think that
if they work out, they can eat whatever they want. Nothing could be farther
from the truth. In fact, I would say diet is 75% of weight loss and
exercise 25%.

Well I usually do tons of reps and not much weight so I will put that
in with my workout also. I was always told that more reps is what
gives you abs but that was awhile ago when I was told that.
Anyways, I am a college student/athlete and if you have ever been to
college you know how odd your diet is during this time. I try to eat
healthy things but always being on the run and everything makes it
hard. I am not overweight by any means. My body fat was around 3% is
HS but now its higher for obvious reasons probably about 6-7%. My main
problem is eating healthy though in my opinion. Anyone have any ideas
on what to eat/how to fix some things for a poor college student? Or
maybe a list of things they eat for their diet?
Thanks!

Have you tried Pavels situps? Lie on you r back with your hands
together over your head-then curl your abs to touch your toes, ensuring
your lower back never comes off the floor-it should hurt like hell at
first-try for 5 reps-slower the better.
That commie bastard has some good exercises- I can send you them if oyu
want

How do you know it was 3%, now 6%? That sounds EXTREMELY low to me. Maybe
they were doing the eyelid skinfold caliper test?

The Abs Diet book is available at Wal-Mart for about ten bucks. Chapter
13 is devoted to more than 50 exercises that target your abs. They
don't recommend starvation or thousands of reps either. My suggestion?
Buy the book. Follow their recommendations.

Six or seven percent and you can't see your abs? I just had my bf taken
at the gym using an Omron something or other and it offered 15.4%.
Regardless of the accuracy of that number, mine is NOT 7% and I can
still flex my abs and see the top four of my alleged six-pack through a
layer of fat. Did you lose your abs in a horrific accident? I mean at
seven percent you should be able to see... something.

Again, I'll recommend The Abs Diet book. It may even be available at
your college book store or a local public library. Heck, just go to
Wal-Mart with your notebook and pencil. Or borrow eleven bucks, buy the
book, Xerox chapters 7 and 13, and then return the book to Wal-Mart for
a refund.
Oh, wait. That would be wr-wrong. Buy the book. I mean, which do you
want more, six-pack abs or that six-pack of beer? ;o)

As to your friend "starving himself," and that being "not for [you],"
just keep in mind that well developed abs won't show if there's a
blanket of blubber over them.
As to exercises, try weighted crunches on a Roman chair (or similar
setup). Be sure to fully stretch your abs during the eccentric
movement of each repetition. If you have one available, crunches on
an inversion table are also very effective.

Yea I think I would rather have the 6 pack of beers... ha ha.. yea that
6% is probably wrong... so i dunno what it is at the moment.. but its
obviously higher.. but thanks for the info though...

That would be a cool site if it wasn't so fucked up with popups and ads.
Great idea.
