Quite so!
There should be no "leverage" from the muscles of the back, which
should not shorten at all. Despite the fact that the Erector Spinae is
the target muscle it is only supposed to be exercised isometrically.
John Williams' show-off 'demonstration' video was pathetic and wrong
in almost all respects, particularly as the hips are meant to be kept
low and shoulders high with the weight close to the body.
There is absolutely nothing wrong with ATTG deadlifts, which assist
proper form and a full ROM!.
