No.

Not IPF powerlifters. I've seen IPA and APA lifters get squats passed
that were 4 inches higher than that but that isn't real powerlifting.

Only one would have gotten a white light in a local USAPL contest.
None would have passed at Masters Nationals this year.

Well, whatever... I'm not competing in powerlifting. I squat for
hypertrophy, not to squat more weight. Hence I do hamstrings
separately... which, if you flick back a few pages, was my original
comment.
Going back to that, does my depth meet your approval for hamstring
activity?
When training quads, the only hip extensor I feel is glutes, when doing
45' leg press.

Going deep, at the knee joint, is completey irrelevant for activation of the
hams.
If you insist on activating the hams while squatting, you better go to
parallel and bend forward as much as you can.

That sounds about right.
And is confirmed by the study John posted.

Yeah, so I don't know why Hanson has an issue with what I said. So what
if I never feel my hamstrings in squats? Maybe I've got a hamstring /
quad strength imbalance.
Speaking of which, what's a normal ratio for squat vs good morning
strength? (Arched back, bar across shoulders).

Yeah, well, i had a huch that you didnt.
I never squatted for ham development myself. Its quad/glut and inner thighs.
There are other, better exercises for mams.

I had ENDLESS discussions with PLers in the late nineties about things like
this.
http://groups.google.nl/group/misc.fitness.weights/browse_frm/thread/79f52d1cbcf496b6/0c 3f7a75044f90b4?tvc=1&q=squats+leg+presses#0c3f7a75044f90b4
Machines are major NONO. Free weights are superior at ALL times.
And squats rule.
We had people who assumed that if you squat and deadlift, every muscle group
will grow to its max.
Which is bullshit.
> So what if I never feel my hamstrings in squats?
Hehe... doesnt matter me, mate!
There are a LOT of exercises for hams.

Man...thats difficult.
I mean, the quads are taken totally out of the equation. I would try SLDLs
myself. And hyperextensions and/or GHC raises. Together with curls.
If you want to test quads, use the extensions. Then test the hams with
curls.
I guess you use about 70% of the weight with curls, given those machines
have indentical mechanics.

any assertion that squats don't hit the hams unless you go parallel or
ass to floor or do a good morning in the middle...is silly.
i did quarter squats for the first time in a few months the other day,
and my hamstrings were cramping like an eleven year old on her first
period after only one set.
squats work the hamstrings just fine, and are pretty much the only leg
exercise you'll ever need.

Agreed.
IMO, it has more to with the inclination of the torso.
There must be signifcant action at the hip joint because the hams dont do
anything at the knee while doing squats.
