Yeah, yeah, one of these "Holland Promotion" posts again...

ANYWAY,

It seems that UniCef did a little research about the fact were the happiest
children, in the developed Countries, that is, live. WE are number one, and
by a stretch. Second was Sweden, i believe.

The US was at an embarrasing 20th place. The Britsh finished last, on 21.

http://www.nos.nl/nosjournaal/artikelen/2007/2/14/140207_vn_kinderen.html

What UniCef probably doesnt know is how we get them so happy.
Well, we shove truckloads of Ritalin and benzodiazepines down their throat,
backed up by Prozac and XTC.

UniCef probably didnt see them when they come off such drugs.
(We do that when they are 15, since we figure its time to grow up...)

Well, maybe 19th place if the research was done today - another SNOW
DAY in this section of the US. ;o)

A day off including sledding and skating would have to make kids
happier, yes?

> The Britsh finished last, on 21.

It has to be weather-related. I was only in Portsmouth for a month,
but it seemed to rain an awful lot. It was sunny in London, though,
the times I was able to visit. Unfortunately, I don't recall seeing
any children. As a 20something, my focus was the next pub, more than
likely.

Tulips? No. Never mind.

My joke-versus-serious-statement detector is on the blink.

(whacks machine)

Dammit.

Hmm. No matter. It's the correct levels that seem to be the tricky
part as it relates to "happiness" brought on by drugs, imo. I've seen
students who've seemingly lost their entire personality courtesy of
too much or not enough of something. It's all confidential, but it's
not too difficult to assume that a child's receiving meds when they go
from walking on the ceiling to sitting slump-shouldered and glaze-
eyed.

So far as I know, there was no Ritalin when I was a student at
Reinholds Elementary. No, Mrs. Lawrence was our Ritalin in human form.
She and her mighty arm connected to the Paddle of Dooooom. A few
cracks from that combination and dancing, playing, and goofing around
in the classroom immediately became low priority.

Maybe the British and US catch up to Denmark if similar research was
done on adults?

Paxil, Wellbutrin, Zoloft, SSRIs, MAOIs, Tricyclics, Effexor, Serzone,
Buspar, Desyrel, Remeron, Edronax, Viagra, and more?

Oops.

I meant The Netherlands. But, hey, Denmark at 3rd place isn't such a

I'm suspicious of the research, however. Just take a look at the

I had a tricyclic when i was a kid. Certainly made me happy.

Well, i say tricyclic, it was a normal bicyclic with stabilisers. My dad
took them off once i could ride it properly.

So are you suggesting enough drugs will give a child a personality?
Oh wait, you just did.

Or perhaps they are diabetic? Or just bored in your class.

Nice assumption. Do you tell other teachers you suspect drug use?
That's what you are suggesting. Yeah, let's send this post to your
lead teacher and see what they think of you.

Oh, and let's turn this around.

"Mommy, my art teacher is so cool. He's bald, has a goatee and wears
leather. He's not married and he's in his forties."

Mom and Dad look at each other -- "Gay!"

And you know this, how? Didn't you visit your friend Wikipedia? It
was being used in the 1960s. But then again, maybe your trailer park
didn't go to the doctors in the know.

I'm glad to see your logic is flawed no matter where you post.

Oh, happy belated VD.

I would think the Dutch would be lsted as high on the happy list in

generally happy population. I need to move there.

The word lost above would indicate to most that the personality was
taken. Ergo, the personality had to've been there initially.

Hyperactivity to its opposite based on such? I'll take your word for
it.

Ha! Not today - our third snow day in a row. Log off and go sledding,
Kavin. I had breakfast at a local diner. Enjoyed a brisk walk there
and home as a result.

Not that I recall, but I'm sure I've commented on a change in a
child's behavior. I don't always assume ADHD meds, however.

Just recently a child in my class, typically very talkative - some
migh even say disruptive - was sitting at a table with his head down,
not saying a word during group instruction. I stopped and asked him,
"Are you not feeling well?" or something like that. Unusual behavior
for the child. He said he had a headache. Probably my fault, right?

Bald and goateed, yes. Wears leather? Boots at times and, yes, the
belt, but other than those examples, my leather is related or confined
to motorcycling.

Good for mom and dad. And good for the child who spends time with
them, of course.

Are you using that term in the pejorative, Kavin?

Often, but not re Ritalin. Thanks for doing the leg work there, K.

Cool. Still, if I didn't get it then I doubt any of my ADHD-like
classmates got it either. Again, Mrs. Lawrence's right arm seemed to
be quite effective at damping our childlike enthusiasm.

If you are serious about moving here, i advice you to do a little research.

Just a little. As a free thinker, you would fit right in.

Dont worry about the language. If you ever meet someone who doesnt speak
English, ignore that person.
There is a big change you are talking to someone who doesnt speak Dutch
Either.

Those people should be avoided at all times. (i am not adressing the German,
English or French speakers, here)

Funny thing is that i know few ladies that came hereas French speakers, and
are now speaking English.
If you speak German or French, we reply in English, and force you to speak
English.

Fucking weird.

Considering how small the country is, i assume they really try to limit
the number of people who are allowed to move there no? Always wanted to
visit. My last name is Brink after all. Lots of Brinks there! A country
where you can smoke a fatty (even though I don't touch the stuff
personally) and has legalized sex trade, is a country for free thinkers as
you say. Dorian Yates lives there half the year or so and loves it. His GF
owns some sort of theater there I recall. Always tells me to come visit. I
love the US, I really do, and all that it stands for, but the pace of life
there as well as other social things has always attracted me.

PS, went to Iceland last month. A very interesting place!

Well, the idea is to stop the "Non-Western" immigrants from comming in.
Which
is a polite way of saying that the muslims should fuck off. Or other people
who are not able to grasp the concept of a modern, Western, civilized
society.

I am not aware of any limit for immigrants from the USA, Canada, Australia
etc.

> Always wanted to

Our Monopoly version has a street with your name attached. And not
"Brinkstreet" or "Brinkcanal."
Just "Brink", without anything attached.

And yes, the Brinks here cannot even be counted.

> A country where you can smoke a fatty (even though I don't touch the stuff

Thats our general consensus. And we try to maintain that, despite huge
pressure from surrounding countries. The reason that we are still
"untouchable" is our economy and export. We export 25% of the entire export
to the Germans, so they depend on our products. We like to keep it that way.

> Dorian Yates lives there half the year or so and loves it.

He also loves the Red Light District ;-O
No really, the times that i saw him, was there, or at least downtown. I
believe thats were his girlfriends apartment is.

Most people who come here, do it for exactly that reason.
As long as you dont bother others, or inflict too much damage to yourself,
you can get away with just about anything.

You can even bring your guns. All you need is a year membership and at least
35 visits to keep 5 guns legally.
But like i said, a little research is required. It helps you pick the right
place.

And that would be why? Maybe their parents allowed it. Unlike your
grandmother, or "loving" uncle. Better insurance? Doctors?

(ADHD-like? That's a good diagnosis. Another part of your gray
world)

And don't assume I believe children should be prescribed drugs like
Ritalin. I don't.

But your post suggests that because you weren't prescribed the drugs,
other students weren't either.

I could be evil and suggest that no one cared that much about you to
be concerned.

Okay, I will be.

I mean, bottle of vodka for granny or drugs for little Curt. I know
where I'd go.

Hit too close?

Which part?

They didn't care.
Granny was a drunk.
You couldn't afford the drugs.

Oh, by the way, was your brother shipped off to granny as well , or
was it just you?

And correct me if I am wrong:

Your mother was a drug-addled teenager who got pregnant and relied on
her mother to raise her children (or child).

And yes, it does explain a lot.

I saw a weird movie yesterday about a kid living in Iceland. He
lived in a crappy town where it freezing all the time and snowed
frequently. The town was on the coast surrounded by mountains.
Everyone lived in tiny houses and had pretty boring jobs. The movie
ends when an avalanche kills everyone he knows. Now my place may be
small but that movie made me happy to be an American.

Ritalin can make a kid go nuts. There was a case in Boston where a 7
year old took his friend out and killed him with a baseball bat. And
I knew a pretty wacky kid in my neighborhood who was hyperactive. I
am sure curt just turns away from kids like this without even noticing
them. Parents drug up the kids because they don't know how to control
them. Kids today are spoiled rotten brats.
