It can get a lot worse. I watched a show about a 750 lbs man. The
day his legs went out from under him was a major turning point. Once
he was bedridden he ballooned up from the 500 lbs range to the 700 lbs
range. Once an obese person loses their mobility they are heading
into a new level of obesity. He ended up dying at 37 years old.

Yeah, funny how all that food magically transported itself to him.
I watched one of those on TLC or Discovery... a guy gets towed into the hospital
for evaluation for surgeries, but they can't fix his medical complications first.
His family snuck him in snacks.
Snacks.
While on his deathbed (and indeed, it proved to be) for obesity.

You're not being very sensitive to the gravitationally challenged.
Good thing you didn't crosspost it to the fat acceptance folks.

How could you watch something like that without throwing up? I'd send
these slugs to subsaharan Africa as food aid.

They had another show on tonight about people consuming 13000 calories
a day. They laid out their daily intake of food on a table and showed
it to each of them. I did feel like throwing up looking at all that
food. One of them pulled the table in closer and started chowing
down.

WORSE. It's *33,000** calories a day! (THIRTY-THREE THOUSAND)

It's your arse that takes all your knocks Will, given that you suffer
with Ducks' Disease.
This is a problem that afflicts most very short people, whereby every
time they step off the kerb, their arse hits the pavement! ;o)

Your knees can't tell the difference between muscle and fat. If you
weigh 250 lbs, are muscular and perform cardio exercises that have
impact, you are as likely a candidate for knee replacement as the 300
lb fat person. The shock loading of knees and hips can be worse than
static loading.
Best to keep weight to under 200 lbs, be it shape, but avoid high
impact aerobic exercise.

Somehow that's not an issue for FA posters!

It is, because muscle around the knee aka quads protect the kneecap and
ligaments. The muscle itself is not a problem for the joints, unless the
mass becomes really huge.

It's not that simple.

Says who and based on what? Huge bodybuilders, of which I know many, don't
appear to suffer knee injuries more often then anyo ther athlete. Joint
problems are not uncommon per se, but are probably due to other factors
like huge loads, muscle imbalances, etc. As fas as I know, big foot ball
players don't suffer more joint problems then smaller players, and skinny
runners often have plenty of joint issues. I don't believe the issue has
been studied directly, so it's conjecture.

That's really stupid. A big muscular guy got that way by lifting heavy
weights. Lifting heavy does more than enlarge your muscles, it
strengthens your bones, tendons, and ligaments.
A 300 lb tub of lard on the other hand spends most of his time laying
down on a couch, his bones are demineralized and his tendons and
ligaments weak.
There is no comparison.
